Shrewsbury Supported Living – Coton Hill House

DJD Architects are pleased to have secured planning consent for the conversion of the former Coton Hill House care home to form 25 no. one bedroom, supported living apartments and associated support facilities. All of the apartments are designed to meet or exceed the Nationally Described Space Standard.

The scheme will offer supported living to single homeless people who are statutorily homeless from between six months to two years, depending on their support needs. It will provide a pathway to independent living and offer wraparound support to help move individuals onto long term accommodation.

The scheme for STAR Housing and Shropshire Council was approved by planning committee on 10 October 2023, fittingly World Homelessness Day.

Coton Hill House will provide quality accommodation, communal spaces for training, and experienced on-site support tailored to individual needs. The scheme will have 24/7 management and support to facilitate the personal skills development of single homeless people, to enable them to move successfully on into settled accommodation elsewhere.

DJD were appointed as Architect for RIBA stages 1 to 3. We worked with the structural engineer, acoustic consultant and M+E consultant, as well as undertaking early stage SAP calculations to develop robust construction strategies to allow the scheme to be delivered and reduce risk. The scheme is currently out to tender, with works due to start on site early in the new year.
