Rural Exception Site of New Homes

DJD Architects are pleased to have assisted our client, Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing to achieve full planning consent for twenty-four new affordable family homes in the village of Whittington, Shropshire.

The development will deliver much needed housing for affordable rent and shared ownership, comprising two and three bedroom houses, and one and two bedroom bungalows.

The scheme was developed as a Community Led Scheme working with the members of the local community to design properties that meet the local housing need and respond to the village.  The development is a rural exception site, delivering affordable homes, secured in perpetuity, adjacent to the village boundary to meet local housing need.

The site is steeply sloping and careful design, working with the Client, community and engineer was needed to achieve access into the site and a coherent design not compromised by the levels.

Landscaping is incorporated throughout the development with the retention of the majority of existing established trees and hedges, new tree and shrub planting, and enhancements for local wildlife, including retention and management of the existinghedges, bird nesting and bat roosting opportunities.
