Sheltered Housing Upgrades

DJD Architects have been involved in sheltered housing upgrades for a number of housing associations during 2016.

Projects have involved the upgrade of 1970s and 1980s sheltered housing complexes which no longer suit the needs of today's residents. Upgrades have varied in scale from simple interventions such as decoration, flooring, improving common areas, laundries, heating systems and insulation, external areas, lighting and improved provision for mobility scooters, to more intrusive works. This has included comprehensive upgrades to existing buildings, converting redundant common areas to new uses, combining difficult to let bedsit accommodation to new two bedroom apartments, and full refurbishments with major alterations.

Projects have included careful consideration of decoration, flooring and finishes to improve the experience of the buildings for older people with dementia.

DJD Architects continue to work on a range of sheltered housing upgrade projects for housing associations in Worcestershire and the West Midlands, including Two Rivers Housing, Fortis Living and Whitefriars.
