Working with historic buildings and projects within conservation areas requires a sympathetic approach, and an understanding of the materials and methods used in traditional construction.
If you are the custodian of a listed building there are legal constraints and responsibilities to be taken account of, beyond the scope of normal planning procedures, but this does not necessarliy mean that alterations cannot be made.
From the outset, we will engage with the local planning authority and where necessary the conservation officer, English Heritage and other consulting bodies to discuss the project and establish the parameters within which proposals may be developed.
Our philosophy of conservation and adaptation hinges around a respect for existing buildings and ensuring the legibility of alterations, but in every case the approach will be led by both the building and your particular needs.
